2020 & 1962

Indians often say that 2020 is not 1962. Meaning India is now stronger and can face Chinese military threat effectively. But then China of 2020 too is not China of 1962. 

Attitude and actions of Chinese show that they are not overly worried about Indian Army. They push us around at will. For them it's a cat & mouse game. China being the cat. They have demonstrated this time and again. During this skirmish we brought back 20 bodies of our brave soldiers. How many enemy soldiers were brought down has remained a matter of speculation or hot debate between political parties, as had happened during the so-called surgical strikes. 

We Indians enjoy debating what Panditji did six decades ago or what vengeful opposition is saying now. Indians never ask why after 4 wars POK, Gilgit Baltistan have remained unliberated or why Aksaichin is still with China? They don't want to know if Indian army is strong enough to face Chinese onslaught? Or is India as a nation physically, economically and morally strong enough to fight a larger conflagration with that country? If not, then what can be done now to remedy the situation so that we are not bullied once again in the next five months, five years or a decade?

Next time the outcome of armed conflict better be favourable to us so that the antagonist has to sing "Ay mera watan ke logo" (ए मेरे वतन के लोगो) in Mandarin. It should not end up in another Indian nitingale rendering a second edition of the song to camouflage yet another debacle.

सोन्याचे अंड देणारी कोंबडी   ‌‌‍‌‌भारतातील अग्रगण्य राज्य म्हणजे महाराष्ट्र. हे राज्य उद्योग, तंत्रज्ञान, व्यापार, कला, शिक्षण इत्यादी सर्व आघाड्यांवर नेहमीच अग्रेसर ठरते. इथे सगळ्यात मोठी गुंतवणूक व आर्थिक उलाढाल तर होतेच पण महाजंगी महसूल गोळा होतो. राजधानी मुंबई व जोड शहर पुणे यांचे तर सर्वांना विलक्षण आकर्षण असते. म्हणून प्रत्येक राजकीय पक्षाला इथे आपलीच सत्ता असावी असे वाटणे सहाजिकच आहे.  कर्मधर्मसंयोगाने असा योग नोव्हेंबर 2019 मध्ये आला. सोन्याचे अंडे देणारी कोंबडीच हाती लागली व तिनीही पक्षात आनंदी आनंद झाला. धनदौलत व अमाप संपत्तीची आणि बेफाम सत्तेची स्वप्न डोळ्यासमोर तरळू लागली.  पण घात झाला सत्ता ग्रहण करण्याच्या काही आठवड्यातच बडगा घेऊन करोना नावाचा चिनी गृहस्थ उपस्थित झाला आणि सगळी स्वप्नं धुळीला मिळाली. एवढेच नव्हे तर काही श्रेष्ठींच्या घरातच या गृहस्थांनी प्रवेश केला व दणका दिला. खरंतर सोन्याचे अंडे देणारी कोंबडी चक्क खुडूक निघाली. सद्य परिस्थितीला "भीक नको पण कुत्रा आवर" किंवा "घी देखा लेकिन करोना नही देखा" या दोन्ही म्हणी लागू पडतात.

Indian investment in Afghanistan! Has all that India invested in Afghanistan gone down the drain? It would appear so. Exact amount is not known but one media report mentions a tidy sum of Rs 23000 crs, including Rs 2200 crs for Salma Dam near Herat city. Wonder whose diplomatic dynamism caused such a huge loss to Indian taxpayers? Is it not enough for us to subsidise Indian farmers, backwards, toilets for assorted poor, NPA of the rich and powerful so that we must now subsidize Afghans? Who has blown our scarce resources on bloodthirsty tribals and crazed Mulla's in a hornet's nest? Who made us lose our money?
