Air crash


With deep distress we read a media report on the death of Gen & Mrs Rawat with 11 others in a helicopter crash this afternoon. A tragic end to an illustrious career of a top General of our nation. Our condolences to the bereaved family members.

What distresses us is the regularity with which planes of the Indian Airforce & other allied service arms crash. Neither political or defense leaderships or public at large seems to be worried about the terrible flight safety record of IAF. It doesn't evoke a single comment from the leftists, rightists or the anarchists in our society! We thought that 2014 would be a watershed moment & armed forces will be strengthened, made to perform & held accountable. No such luck; as had happened pre 2014, political leadership's interest in defense matters ends with purchase of weapons & perhaps goodies that follow to be enjoyed at leisure.


In my Sept 2021 post (https://www.facebook.com/100017487579519/posts/832032110723034/?app=fbl) I had written about awful peace-time crashes of IAF and its tremendous cost to the nation in terms of precious lives lost, destruction of hardware & ordinance. The question is whether such a force is capable of engaging vicious enemies in our neighborhood?


In the case in point our sorrow would have been mitigated had strutting politicians been on board the ill-fated flight instead of Gen & his entourage.

सोन्याचे अंड देणारी कोंबडी   ‌‌‍‌‌भारतातील अग्रगण्य राज्य म्हणजे महाराष्ट्र. हे राज्य उद्योग, तंत्रज्ञान, व्यापार, कला, शिक्षण इत्यादी सर्व आघाड्यांवर नेहमीच अग्रेसर ठरते. इथे सगळ्यात मोठी गुंतवणूक व आर्थिक उलाढाल तर होतेच पण महाजंगी महसूल गोळा होतो. राजधानी मुंबई व जोड शहर पुणे यांचे तर सर्वांना विलक्षण आकर्षण असते. म्हणून प्रत्येक राजकीय पक्षाला इथे आपलीच सत्ता असावी असे वाटणे सहाजिकच आहे.  कर्मधर्मसंयोगाने असा योग नोव्हेंबर 2019 मध्ये आला. सोन्याचे अंडे देणारी कोंबडीच हाती लागली व तिनीही पक्षात आनंदी आनंद झाला. धनदौलत व अमाप संपत्तीची आणि बेफाम सत्तेची स्वप्न डोळ्यासमोर तरळू लागली.  पण घात झाला सत्ता ग्रहण करण्याच्या काही आठवड्यातच बडगा घेऊन करोना नावाचा चिनी गृहस्थ उपस्थित झाला आणि सगळी स्वप्नं धुळीला मिळाली. एवढेच नव्हे तर काही श्रेष्ठींच्या घरातच या गृहस्थांनी प्रवेश केला व दणका दिला. खरंतर सोन्याचे अंडे देणारी कोंबडी चक्क खुडूक निघाली. सद्य परिस्थितीला "भीक नको पण कुत्रा आवर" किंवा "घी देखा लेकिन करोना नही देखा" या दोन्ही म्हणी लागू पडतात.

Indian investment in Afghanistan! Has all that India invested in Afghanistan gone down the drain? It would appear so. Exact amount is not known but one media report mentions a tidy sum of Rs 23000 crs, including Rs 2200 crs for Salma Dam near Herat city. Wonder whose diplomatic dynamism caused such a huge loss to Indian taxpayers? Is it not enough for us to subsidise Indian farmers, backwards, toilets for assorted poor, NPA of the rich and powerful so that we must now subsidize Afghans? Who has blown our scarce resources on bloodthirsty tribals and crazed Mulla's in a hornet's nest? Who made us lose our money?
